Tavengwa heads for London

will be making her debut appearance at the Olympics, is Zimbabwe’s only female representative in the women’s marathon at the 2012 London Olympic Games and has been preparing for this event back in Africa in Kenya. And Tavengwa is set to join the rest of her teammates in Team Zimbabwe for the London Games when she flies in today from Kenya.
But the seasoned runner revealed yesterday from her base in Kenya that she was still having some problems with her knee and might not perform to the best of her ability during this Sunday’s women’s marathon in London.
In fact, Tavengwa sustained a knee injury in early 2012 that laid her off for three weeks.
She also got a virus in Morocco in 2011 and was out for three months.
And on her return to competition, she sustained a knee injury that put her out for six weeks.
Tavengwa said yesterday that she was still “struggling” with her knee injury and was having some pains.
“I still feel or experience some pains on the knne, especially when I train hard but it’s really part of our preparations to train hard.
“The bad thing is that my knee is not that good. In fact, it has been raining here in Kenya and the (training conditions) have been muddy and slippery in the past week, and this also affected my knee. “So I’m not sure now if I’ll be able to shake this injury off but still that’s not going to stop me to do my best (at the London Games). If my legs carry me to the first 30km of the race, I’m sure things will be great,” Tavengwa said.
She relocated to Kenya in 2006 and she indicated at that time that she moved her base there because of the good running and training terrain the East African country has to offer.
