ANOTHER Doom moment!
The insecticide seems to be still gaining popularity for all the wrong reasons as one Bulawayo taxi driver injured his colleague by spraying it on his face during a fight over parking space.
The incident which brought the court gallery into laughter happened on 7 March at the corner of 11th Avenue and Herbert Chitepo Street.
Sipho Tshawe (33) was brought to the dock charged with assault.
He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody by Bulawayo provincial magistrate Tinashe Tashaya.
Prosecutor, Lean Nkomo told the court how Tshawe and the complainant, Israel Ncube who is also a taxi driver (60) had a misunderstanding over parking space which later degenerated into a physical fight.
a�?The accused and the complainant had a misunderstanding over parking space because the complainant jumped the queue,a�? Nkomo said.
Tshawe got angry and in a fit of rage took a Doom insecticide can which he kept in his car and sprayed Ncube in the face thereby injuring his eyes.
Ncube was ferried to hospital for medical examination and a medical report will be produced in court as evidence.
In his defence, Tshawe told the magistrate that he never intended to harm Ncube but used the insecticide as his defence mechanism.
a�?Your Worship, I did not intend to harm the complainant but he was charging at me carrying a wheel spanner, that is when I reached for the a�?Dooma�? thinking he would retreat. He kept on charging at me and thata��s when I ended up spraying him,a�? said the remorseful Tshawe. .
