in court charged with attempted murder.
Shame Gororo (29) of Hatfield was not formally charged, when he appeared before regional magistrate Mr Morgen Nemadire.
Mr Nemadire referred the matter back to the police after prosecutor Mr Michael Reza had applied to have Gororo remanded in custody. Gororo told the court that he was never arrested over the case but had been brought to court by summons. The police from Waterfalls Police Station who brought the docket had already left the court hence the court could not ascertain the actual position.
The matter is expected to proceed today.
Prosecutor Mr Michael Reza alleges that on December 10 last year, complainant Mr Tendai Ruzvidzo hired Gororo to ferry him from Jongwe bar, Hatfield to Waterfalls.
The complainant was in the company of Mr Nobert Munyanyi. It is alleged that upon arrival in Waterfalls, Gororo demanded more than what they had agreed.
The complainant refused to pay.
Mr Ruzvidzo and Mr Munyanyi disembarked at Corner Churchill and Hlaford Roads, Waterfalls.
Gororo, the State says, reversed his taxi a Toyota Ipsum for about 100 metres and drove towards the complainant and hit him before driving off at high speed. The complainant was taken to Harare Hospital where a medical affidavit was prepared. The affidavit will be used as an exhibit in court.
