A 22-year-old Kwekwe pirate taxi driver lost his motor vehicle to armed robbers on Thursday night.
In a statement, Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident.
According to the police, Trymore Magaya of Amaveni received a phone call from an anonymous caller, who claimed to be in need of transport.
The client wanted to be taken from Elizabeth Road in the Chicago area to Kwekwe Central Business District.
It was around 7:40pm.
In heeding to the customer’s call, Magaya drove his blue Honda Fit (registration number AEO 7717) to Chicago.
However, at the Amaveni roundabout, he found the road barricaded with stones.
Two men emerged from the bush and broke the complainant’s car window, using stones.
They also struck the door with a machete.
The suspects managed to get into Magaya’s vehicle.
They threatened to kill him if he didn’t heed their orders to leave the car and surrender his property.
The complainant surrendered US$218 cash and a Huawei P8 cellphone.
He told the suspects that other valuables were in the car and escaped.
The men drove the car away.
The matter was reported at ZRP Kwekwe Central and investigations are in progress.
Total value stolen is US$3798.00
The police have made an appeal to the public to assist them with information which can lead to the arrest of the culprits.
