Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor was the shining star among the cast of local players who have trooped to play cricket in Bangladesh’s Dhaka Premier Division after scoring a half century on debut for his club Prime Bank.Talyor began his stint on a high note when he smacked a 78-ball 86 to help Prime Bank crush Cricket Coaching School by 152 runs in a list A match while compatriots Vusi Sibanda, Hamilton Masakadza, Sikandar Raza and Elton Chigumbura had a slow start for their clubs.

Taylor’s 86, which comprised two sixes and seven fours fortified Prime Bank’s innings who batted first and reached 249/8 in their 50 overs.

A solid half-century opening stand between all-rounder Ziaur Rahman (18) and Saykat Ali (28) set the platform for Prime Bank and in addition to Taylor, there were useful contributions from Jeevan Mendis (22), Taiabur Parvez (22 not out) and Taposh Boishya (20). In reply, Cricket Coaching were bundled out 97 in 36.3 overs.

Leg-spinner Jeevan Mendis took four wickets while Enamul Haque jnr and Mahmudul Hasan picked up two scalps each to complete the rout. This was Prime Bank’s third win which took them to third place after three matches.

There are 12 teams in the Dhaka Premier League.  The trio of Masakadza, Sibanda and Raza, who signed for Kalabagan Cricket Academy, yesterday won their first game when they beat Khelaghar by three wickets.

Although the Zimbabweans appeared to struggle with the bat, Raza made a decent score of 27 runs from 52 balls to finish as the second highest scorer. Raza also took two wickets while there was no joy with the bat for Sibanda and Masakadza.

Their captain Marshall Ayub was the highest scorer after contributing 63 runs as they successfully chased down 163. Sibanda who departed for a single in his first game last week, should have been a disappointed man again yesterday when he was removed for a duck after facing only three deliveries. Masakadza managed seven runs and also got two consolation wickets.

All-rounder Elton Chigumbura was involved in a heavy defeat as his club Sheikh Jamal lost for the first time in three starts. Chigumbura, playing in his first game yesterday, was unbeaten on five runs as they fell to Prime Doleshwar by seven wickets after his side was bowled out for 93 runs inside 29 overs.
