Taylor is expected to leave tomorrow for the tournament, which begins on Sunday, and ends just a few days before Zimbabwe’s tour of New Zealand.
The MidWest Rhinos opening batsman, who has had an outstanding season in 2011, said he was looking forward to the challenge during the next five weeks in which the team will play at least 10 Twenty20 games in a double round robin phase preceding the final.
“It looks very exciting but it’s a massive challenge. I hope to add value to the team and I am also looking forward to learning one or two things which will help me as an individual and benefit the national team as well,” said Taylor.
HRV Cup is the official domestic Twenty20 tournament in New Zealand and, just like the Zimbabwe cricket’s Stanbic Twenty20, has attracted foreign players over the years.
Taylor will be joined at Wellington by Sri Lanka spin legend Muttiah Muralitaran and England all rounder Rory Hamilton-Brown who is currently playing for Mashonaland Eagles on a short contract.
Wellington will warm up the stage on Sunday in the first game of the tournament against Auckland Aces who also have former Zimbabwe Under-19 player Colin de Grandhomme in their books.
Six teams are taking part in the tournament and will face each other twice in the round robin stage, with the top two going for the finals on January 22, 2012.
