The Ministry of Health and Child Care in partnership with the Stop TB Partnership Zimbabwe is holding a two-day training workshop to equip TB survivors with skills to be part of the national TB response.

The initiative recognises the experience of survivors in raising awareness about TB in their communities while working with health workers to reduce stigma and improve adherence to treatment.

Zimbabwe National Network of TB Survivors chairman Mr Stanely Sibanda said TB survivors were important in the fight against TB.

“In the past, TB survivors had no role to play in the TB response but we are happy that the Government has realised that they have experience because they survived TB,” he said.

“They can raise awareness and encourage others to get tested and adhere to treatment. Today we are training TB survivors who will work in clinics to give care and support to those affected by TB in the communities.
