Teacher in trouble

A Marondera teacher has been arrested in connection with a spate of rapes and robberies committed in and around Harare over the past two years.
Davison Dhliwayo (45), a teacher at Rakodzi High School in Marondera was on Wednesday not asked to plead to five counts of rape and four of robbery when he appea-red before Harare Magistrate Mr Rogers Kachambwa.
He was remanded in custody to March 15 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Ms Fadzai Kuipa told the court that on February 14 last year, Dhliwayo was riding his motorcycle and met a 29-year-old woman from Mount Hampden.
He allegedly grabbed her hand and dragged her for a distance but she managed to flee. Dhliwayo, it is alleged, got off the bike and chased the woman. She tripped, fell to the ground and Dhliwayo caught up with her and pulled out a knife, it is alleged. After allegedly threatening to stab her, he raped her and made off with her cellphone and money among other valuables. The woman immediately lodged a police report. The State says on August 28, Dhliwayo – who had repainted his motorbike – approached a 25-year-old Hatfield woman who was on her way to work.
It is alleged Dhliwayo told her he had been looking for her. He grabbed her by the collar and threatened to stab her with a knife before ordering her onto the bike, the court heard. It is alleged he raped her in a bush near Manyame. The prosecution alleges he left with her petticoat and skirt. She too made a police report.
On September 16, Dhliwayo – who had again repainted his motorbike – allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman who was walking in a council paddock after claiming to be a municipal council security guard. This year on January 11, Dhliwayo allegedly offered 20-year-old woman a lift to Epworth on his motorbike. Again, it is alleged, he raped her in a bush. On January 18, Dhliwayo allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl after chasing her into a bush. He fled the scene with a digital cellphone, an umbrella and US$5. Police investigations led to his arrest. -CR
