Team VW: More than a car club, it’s a family

Welcome to the world of car enthusiasts in Zimbabwe, where owning a Volkswagen (VW) or Audi is not just about having a means of transportation, it’s about being part of a community. This community is known as Team VW, a group of 150 men and women who share the same love and passion for their cars.

Zibusiso Ndhlovu, a member of Team VW, explained to us how the club came about.

“The team was established in 2016 after a few VW car owners came together and all agreed it was a necessity for a team to be established so they can share the love they have for the cars. What they did not know was how big the team would grow and be not limited to one city but all over the country.”

The club is not limited to just VW owners, as they have also joined forces with Audi owners who share the same powerful engine.

Membership is free, and members are required to attend at least two events per year to remain active in the club. The events are organised in different parts of the country to accommodate all members. Team VW is more than just a car club; it’s a family that provides support to its members in various ways, including helping with car repairs and offering advice on car modifications. Members also get access to discounts from selected auto parts and service providers.

“Team VW, as the name suggests, is a group of 150 men and women who are passionate about Volkswagen vehicles. We came together to share our love and passion for this car. However, we did not limit ourselves to VW owners only but we also joined with the Audis because the cars share the same powerful engine which in our opinion makes us belong to one family,” Zibusiso said.

The club is managed by an executive team which is chosen annually, and potential members must pass a vetting process before being admitted. Once admitted, members are added to the club’s WhatsApp group with full rights and privileges.

One of the highlights of being a member of Team VW is the annual road trip, which promotes safe and responsible driving among members, proper maintenance of the cars, and the health and fitness of the club members through sporting activities they do while on the road. It also promotes entrepreneurship among the members and brings them together to create lasting friendships.

In addition to the annual road trip, the club also hosts car shows, road rallies, cruises, and braai outings.

Zibusiso encourages all VW and Audi owners to join the club, as it not only provides a great opportunity for networking but also gives owners a chance to build a sense of community around their beloved vehicles.

So the next time you see a line of VW and Audi cars vrooming down the road and making noise, you’ll know that they are not just showing off their cars, but are part of a tight-knit community of car enthusiasts who share the same love and passion for their vehicles.
