Team Zim win second medal

THE Zimbabwe Paralympic team won their second medal at the 12th Fazza Championships, World Para Athletics Grand Prix, in Dubai yesterday.

Albert Singele claimed bronze in the men’s 1 500m men, a day after veteran wheelchair racer Margaret Bangajena won bronze in the 800m on Wednesday.

Sprinter Vimbai Zvinowanda missed the podium after she came fifth in the women’s 100m, while Pride Mafira finished fourth in the men’s long jump.

The Zimbabwean team are not yet sure if the time posted by Bangajena will be good enough for Tokyo Games qualification.

The 43-year-old racer came third in a time of 3:26,17.

Turkey’s Hamide Dogangun scooped gold, after clocking 1:56,60.

Another Turkish athlete, Zeynep Acet, settled for silver with a time of 2:14,84.

Bangajena was the first Zimbabwean to get a podium finish at the event.

On Wednesday, Zvinowanda, came third in her heat in the long jump event.

The athletes are chasing qualification for the rescheduled Tokyo Games.
