THE provisional Zimbabwe team for the All-Africa Games set for Congo-Brazzaville is set to be unveiled today at the National Sports Stadium.Team Zimbabwe chef de mission Joseph Muchechetere said most of the disciplines were close to finalising their lists.
The Sports Commission intends to send 150 people to the Games.
“This is not the final list, but I am sure most of the people have a chance of going for the Games.
“There could be some additions and changes before the final list is submitted,” said Muchechetere.
Muchechetere, who is also the Sports Commission director for sports development, said they were likely to send a smaller team than the one which took part at the last All-Africa Games in Mozambique.
Today, those who could represent Zimbabwe in athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, cycling, football, gymnastics, judo, karate, rugby, swimming, taekwondo and tennis could be unveiled.
Yesterday, the men and the women’s volleyball teams failed to qualify for the Games from the regional qualifiers in Botswana.
“It’s still work in progress and we still have to give a chance to athletes from track and field who are still trying to qualify and will be selected depending on their levels of fitness,” said Muchechetere. — Sportszone.
