A 17-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo boy will receive two strokes for stealing a television set.

The teenager from Old Luveve suburb was jointly charged with an accomplice, Promise Mabhena (43).

The two were convicted on their own plea by Western Commonage magistrate Ms Tancy Dube.

Ms Dube sentenced the teenager to two strokes with a light cane at Bulawayo Prisons while Mabhena was remanded in custody to Friday for sentence.

For the State, Ms Margret Takawira said Mabhena and the teenager devised a plan to break into Mr Junior Dube’s house in Luveve suburb on Friday last week.

“On December 2 this year at around 6PM, the complainant left his house proceeding to town after having secured the home by closing all windows and locking all doors,” said Ms Takawira

She said: “During the night, the accused person hatched a plan to steal from the complainant’s house. The teenager proceeded to the complainant’s house leaving Mabhena behind.”

The court heard that the teenager forced open a door to gain entry into the house.

He allegedly stole a 32-inch Euro Line plasma television set and went away unnoticed.

He took it to Mabhena’s house as per their agreement.

The pair was arrested following a tip off from members of the public.

The television set was recovered from one Bathabile Tshuma’s house after indications made by  the two. The television set was valued at $300.
