YOUTHFUL Harare choreographer, Leone “Laycone” Chimwanamwana, said he was looking forward to a busy and fruitful festive season.

The 19-year-old, who has become a hit in Epworth for empowering young people through free dance lessons, is confident of landing more bookings this festive season as a choreographer.

Laycone, who has made a name for himself as a choreographer and wedding coach, has remained grounded despite all the fame. In an interview, Laycone said he was looking forward to a hectic festive season full of bookings.

“It is that time of the year again when people drink, eat, and be merry and having to be part of such a time, is something yearned for.

“Christmas is a time to be happy with family and friends. We want to spread the festive spirit around. We have been practicing as a team and we are happy with our progress so far.

“I am looking forward to a busy schedule full of bookings as we wrap up the year,” he said.

As a role model and community builder, Laycone urged his peers to desist from risky behaviour during the festive season. He also urged the youth to be responsible for their actions to avoid disappointments.

“It is a time when people get excited because the year is wrapping up.

“However, I urge my peers to refrain from going overboard and engaging in the abuse of drugs and substances.

“This is a time when most of us tend to make decisions that are rushed because we will be living for the moment.

“As young people, we make poor choices which will affect us a couple of months later when the consequences come out.”

Outlining his vision, Laycone said he wanted to become an international star and leave footprints of success on the showbiz landscape.

“My dream is to grow and establish an empire as a dancer. I want to go big and be internationally recognised.

“However, financial hurdles are limiting not only me but other dancers who also wish to grow.

“We will keep pushing until we get there and be recognised internationally,” he said.

He has vowed to continue holding free classes within his community in his quest to transform lives through dance.

Laycone’s initiative has been hailed by community leaders as a way of fighting drug and substance abuse.

Research has shown that young people lying idle in most communities end up indulging in drug and substance abuse, which has destroyed many lives.
