AN 18-year-old teenager died after he was crushed by bricks following a scotch cart mishap which also injured his friend.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident which occurred on Monday at around 6PM in
Phakama Village, Avoca area, Filabusi.
He said Abraham Nyathi and his friend Nkosilomusa Ncube were transporting bricks using a donkey drawn scotch cart when the incident happened.
“I can confirm that we received an incident where an 18-year-old teenager from Filabusi area Abraham Nyathi died in a scotch cart mishap. Abraham was riding with Nkosilomusa Ncube in a donkey drawn scotch cart loaded with bricks.
“The scotch cart overturned due to the poor state of the road and the bricks trapped both teenagers. Abraham died on the spot after sustaining head injuries while Nkosilomusa who also sustained injuries, survived,” he said.
Insp Ndebele said a passerby found Nkosilomusa still trapped under the bricks and rescued him.
He said the boy was taken to Filabusi District Hospital where he was treated and discharged. – DubeMatutu
