TWO gold panners from Worringham allegedly attacked a couple with a spear in a row over a $2 debt.

Nonkululeko Gumbo (48) was left with a swollen hip while her husband Chris Bernard Moyo (40) sustained head injuries after they were allegedly attacked by Mthandazo Matshazi (28) and Shepherd Sibanda (23).

A court heard that Matshazi allegedly speared the couple while Sibanda illuminated a torch so that their attacker could easily identify the targets.

The two pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and assault before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Crispen Mberewere who remanded them in custody to today.

In a warned and cautioned statement, Gumbo said her husband hired Matshazi in January to help feed gold ore into a crushing mill and promised to pay him $2.
