A teenage boy is wanted by police after he was discovered to be having an affair with a male friend at a local school.

Nhlanhla Dube (19) is believed to be on the run after a boarding master at a local school (name supplied), reported him to the police after discovering his illicit affair with Tafara Tigere (18).

Circumstances are that, on November 12, the boarding master caught the two suspects in a compromising position in one of the dormitories.

After pouncing on them, he notified them of the gravity of the crime they were committing, before he reported the matter to the police.

When they heard they were being wanted, the duo vanished the school’s premises, with Tigere only handing himself to the police on Monday. Dube is still at large.

Their trial will commence once Dube has been located and arrested.

“The police are looking for a suspect by the name Nhlanhla Dube aged 19, who is linked to a homosexuality crime committed on November 12. Dube is believed to have been engaged in an affair with a male identified as Tafara Tigere.

“After the police pursued them for arrest, the duo went AWOL, with Tigere handing himself over after a few days. The police are pleading with the members of the public to provide information on the whereabouts of Dube for his possible arrest,” said a source within the local police department.

Zimbabwe’s laws criminalise same-sex sexual acts, and it’s punishable by fines or imprisonment. According to Article 78(3) of the 2013 Constitution, the law explicitly prohibits marriage between people of the same sex.

For years, the government has been campaigning against LGBTI rights, as they are deemed contrary to Zimbabwean values, and Ubuntu.
