IN the midst of the Bulawayo derby pitting Highlanders and Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, a 14-year-old prodigy made his Castle Lager Premiership debut.
It was perhaps the intensity of the game and derby rivalry that took centre stage and made Dwayne Musona’s entry into professional football a non-event.
But still history was made as the boy at the age of 14, came in to replace Arthur Musiyiwa to emphasize the good football business work, Chiefs’ trajectory appears on.
The previous held records at the club were held by Tafadzwa Dliwayo and Brandon Mpofu who made their Premiership debuts for Chiefs at the ages of 16 and 17 respectively.

Commenting on Musona’s debut, Kizito Muhoma, Christian Brothers College principal was happy with the teenager having a run before a packed Barbourfields Stadium.
“Congratulations to the boy. We are proud of his achievement as a school, it’s good news that he made his debut,” said Muhoma.
Sports like athletics, cricket, rugby, swimming, triathlon and water polo have put the school on the map.
Muhoma says the school is committed to every sporting discipline.
“We have a comprehensive football programme that starts at Under-14 level. We take part in the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) at times reach finals, to have a boy at that level is good for the school,” said Muhoma.
Musona arrived at the beginning of the year from Mutare side Majesa Academy.
He was identified by the club while playing for the Zimbabwe Under-17 side last year.
Schools in the Imbizo District should expect fireworks this year as CBC boasts Nigel Zhou and Tebogo Dube both sixth formers at the school who are under Chiefs.
