Teen tennis sensation secures timely sponsorship

BULAWAYO’S rising junior tennis player Courage Ndhlovu has secured sponsorship at a moment his career is beginning to demand more than just talent.

The teenager, who has been quietly building a reputation on the local and regional circuits, will now get support from Radiant Reflections Sport as he prepares for a packed run of national tournaments.

For a young player trying to break through, the timing matters. Travel, accommodation and entry fees often slow progress. This deal gives Ndhlovu a chance to stay on the circuit and compete consistently, which is where young careers are either built or lost.

Radiant Reflections Sport director Timothy Masiiwa said the decision to back Ndhlovu was driven by what they have seen on court.

“We are banking on Courage Ndhlovu as a future star and we are willing to assist him all the way in his journey. His dedication, discipline and performances so far show that he has what it takes to reach the highest level,” said Masiiwa.

“We are proud and happy of Courage’s development. I believe in life one has to go the extra mile and assist in the youngster’s development. This is what we are called to do. As Radiant Reflections Sport we will support him with all he needs, especially with equipment and other stuff to do with the game. Surely, he’s the future of Zimbabwe Tennis and we will be there all the way.”

Masiiwa said their support will not stop at covering costs, with a focus also on mentorship and exposure to stronger competition.

At home, the relief is immediate. Ndhlovu’s father, Julius, a respected goalkeepers’ coach in top-flight football, said the sponsorship lifts a heavy load off the family.

“This sponsorship means a lot to us as a family. Tennis is an expensive sport, and this support will go a long way in helping Courage compete at a higher level. We are grateful and hopeful that this is just the beginning of greater things to come,” he said.

“As a family, we have been doing everything we can to support his passion, from training to travelling for tournaments. It has not always been easy, but seeing him grow and perform well makes it all worthwhile.”

Ndhlovu now heads into a demanding stretch that will test both his level and consistency.

He opened his campaign at the Tarryn-Leigh Open in Bulawayo from April 5 to 8, before moving straight into the Bulawayo Open, which ran from April 8 to 12. He then travels to Harare for the Harare Junior Open from April 14 to 17, followed by the BTA Highlands Junior Open from April 20 to 23.

The circuit then shifts to Mutare, where he is lined up for the Manicaland Junior Open from April 25 to 29, the Ann Martin Junior Open from April 30 to May 2, and the Mantas Junior Open from May 3 to 6.

It is a stretch that will shape his ranking and, more importantly, show whether he can match promise with results.
With backing now in place, Ndhlovu no longer has to fight the same battles off the court. The focus shifts fully to what he does on it.
