THEIR main team is leading the domestic Premiership race and the young guns are doing their own business in the Munhumutapa Cup.
Scottland Academy, a collection of teenage players plying their trade in Division Two, kept their hopes alive in the country’s flagship knockout tournament at Alex Sports Club yesterday.
They edged Division Two leaders, Commando Bullets, 3-1 on penalties, after the match had ended goalless, to win the final match of their league’s preliminary qualifiers.
Goalkeeper Quinton Mtandwa was the hero as he saved two penalties during the shootout.
Commando Bullets only converted once from the spot, and missed three times, while Scottland Academy converted all their three spot-kicks.
It was a grudge match as the army side had beaten Scottland Academy 2-1 in a league match, at the same venue, two weeks ago.
They came into this Cup match as favourites but, a very tight match, did not produce goals during the 90 minutes of a tough battle.
Maybe, because of what was at stake, both teams decided to choose caution, ahead of adventure, but when the showdown spilled into penalties, it was one-way traffic.
While Commando Bullets were fluffing their lines, the Scotts Academy were flawless from the spot as they converted all their penalty kicks.
Coach Danger Fourpence, the former CAPS United defender, was a happy man after the match as his lads celebrated a big victory over a side who have become their toughest opponents in the league.
