A 16-year-old boy was gunned down in Chikuti, Mashonaland West, during a scuffle over stolen gold ore at a mine.

The suspect, Doesmore Charumari (49), has since been arrested in connection with the murder case which occurred at Afro-Asia Gold mine on Saturday at about 8am.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“The suspect fired one shot into the crowd with a revolver during a scuffle over alleged stolen gold ore and shot the victim, Asana Mandara, aged 16, on the forehead,” he said.

Investigations are still in progress.

Police are investigating another murder case in which a 23-year-old man was killed by two suspects, only identified as Mike Sefa and Godfrey Maurindi Banda, at Godzi Business Centre in Kenzamba, Mashonaland West last Friday after a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue.

In a related case, police in Zengeza arrested Gathre Chichetu (29) for murder in which he allegedly stabbed Ernest Makwembere (21), with a broken piece of glass.

Makwembere mistakenly spilled Chichetu’s beer on Saturday at Unit J Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza.

The victim died after being admitted to Chitungwiza General Hospital.

Murder cases have been on the increase countrywide, prompting police to conduct awareness campaigns.

Last week, five men appeared at the Mbare Magistrates Court in Harare on allegations of beating to death their friend whom they accused of stealing pieces of cooked pork trotters.

Itiel Mujeri (43), Daniel Nyamupindidza (43), Joshua Mahuni (48), Moses Nhamo (51), Benjamin Mapondera (45) were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before magistrate Mr Rangarirayi Gakanje.

The State led by Mr Joe Chikoto alleges that on September 25, Tendai Maruwa was at Gravel Shops in Ushewokunze in Harare when he was tasked by the five to prepare trotters.

It is said after preparing them, one of the five noted that Maruwa had stolen some pieces.

Irked by his behaviour, they then assaulted him resulting in his death at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital later that day.

In a related case of murder, police in Mbembesi arrested Roy Ndzombane (46) after he struck his cousin, Mphathisi Masoka (43) with a knobkerrie on the head last Friday at Mahawana Village, after he found him being intimate with his niece.

Masoka died while he was admitted to Mpilo Hospital on Sunday.
