Teenager jailed for burglary

A 17-year-old Chipinge teenager was last week slapped with a three-month jail term for committing several counts of burglary.
Elisha Kangaidzo of Plot 41 Bufflesdrift, who is doing Form 3 at Samhutsa High School, pleaded guilty to theft charges when he appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mrs Sharon Chipanga.

Mr Witness Nyamundaya prosectuted.

“On the first count which was committed on December 24, at around 10pm, the accused person used a metal bar to break open the padlock to shop Number 4 Bufflesdrift.

After gaining entrance he stole 3 packets of spaghetti, 2kg flour,2kg brown sugar,750ml cooking oil,4kg chunks,2x500ml Steri milk, 1kg Cremora, a loaf of bread and $26.

“After stealing the items and cash he locked the padlock before disappearing,” he said

Mr Nyamundaya said that the total value of the stolen property was $48 and nothing was recovered.

On the second count, which was committed on January 3 this year at around 11pm, the suspect once again broke into same shop using the same modus operandi.

“Elisha took 4x500ml sterilised milk, 750ml Clere, 100 sweets and a Nokia 12i cell phone.

The total value of the stolen property was $35 and nothing was recovered.”

Mr Nyamundaya said the third count occurred on January 6 at around 11pm.

He entered Checha bottle store through a broken window and used a metal bar to break open the padlock to the sales room.

“Having broken the padlock, he entered the room and took a Samsung GTE 3210 cell phone, a Nokia battery, 10 zap nax packs, 4 monster sweets and 2 packets of maputi.

He again locked the padlock to the room and went out of the store through the broken window,” he said

The total value of stolen property was $152 and nothing was recovered.

Asked by the magistrate why he turned into habitual burglar he replied that he wanted food to eat.
