police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero on Thursday said they had since arrested the man and investigations were continuing.
“We arrested a Zaka teenager who allegedly raped an 80-year-old granny after his love proposal was turned down,” said Insp Zhanero.
“He tripped her to the ground and raped her once.
“Investigations are still continuing and we want to charge the teenager with rape.”
The man, he said, would appear in court soon.
It is alleged that on the day in question, the man was walking home from a beer drink when he met the senior citizen late in the afternoon. The man allegedly proposed love to the granny and was told off.
The two went away in different directions, police said.
After allegedly walking for a few metres, the man had a change of heart and returned to confront the elderly woman.
He slapped her on the face once, demanding an explanation why she had turned down his love overtures. The man then dragged the hapless old woman into a bushy area where he raped her.
The woman’s grandson caught the man in the act and reported the matter to the police.
