A 19-YEAR-OLD man from Triangle was fined for possessing a smuggled LIFAN motorcycle after failing to provide registration documents during a police investigation.
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) law requires that all imported motor vehicles, including motorbikes, to be declared to ZIMRA, duty and taxes must be paid on the vehicles. Failure to follow the rules may result in the vehicle being taken away, paying fines and being taken to court.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said “Justin Moyo (19) of Triangle was arraigned before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court facing charges of contravening the Customs and Excise Act.
“On the 23rd of July 2024, Police detectives received information to the effect that there was a LIFAN motor cycle suspected to have been smuggled into the country which was being used by the accused person. During investigations, the detectives found the accused person parked at Mafodya Business Centre, Triangle. They asked for the LIFAN motor cycle registration documents but the accused person failed to produce any. Investigations revealed that the motor cycle was not in the ZIMRA system therefore, it was smuggled into Zimbabwe. The accused person was subsequently arrested and the motor cycle was seized.

Justin was fined US$100 fine or face 2 months in jail, said the NPAZ.
