STEALING his neighbour’s two beasts and smuggled them into Mozambique landed a Chipinge teenager (18) in trouble after he was arrested in connection with the offence.
Luck Chihambire of Chisurudza Village under Chief Musikavanhu’s area pleaded not guilty when he appeared before magistrate Mr Vusomusi Gapara last week.
Chihambire was charged with the crime of stock theft as defined in Section 114(2)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9.23.
Public Prosecutor, Ms Edith Phiri, told the court that the complainant, Juliet Sithole, released her three cattle to the pastures in the morning where Chihambire drove two of them away.
‘’The accused person drove the cattle to her mother’s sister, Gosho Mapunxa’s homestead in Mozambique for safekeeping.
‘’The complainant reported the matter to a member of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee, Constable Gapara who then reported the matter to ZRP Chisumbanje.
‘’Police instituted some investigations which led to the arrest of the accused person,’’ said Ms Phiri. The value of the stolen cattle is $400 and nothing was recovered. Chihambire was remanded in custody to next Wednesday for trial.
