TWO teenage boys from Lower Gweru allegedly fatally stabbed a fellow imbiber for stopping them from assaulting a bar lady for closing the bar as they still wanted to drink beer.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emanuel Mahoko said police are investigating the alleged murder of a 26-year-old man who was stabbed with knives all over the body by two men after a misunderstanding at a bar.
He said the incident occurred last Thursday at around 10PM at Insukamini Business Centre in Lower Gweru.
“It is alleged that the now deceased Tafadzwa Sibanda (26) of Mabhaya Village under Chief Bunina in Lower Gweru was drinking beer with the two suspects Tadiwanashe Mhlanga and Philimon Dube both aged 18 of Ndayo Village under Chief Bunina,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the trio allegedly had a misunderstanding after Sibanda stopped the two suspects from assaulting the bar lady who wanted to close the bar. Mhlanga and Dube, he said, still wanted to have beer in the bar.
Insp Mahoko said the two suspects left the bar and when Sibanda was about to leave they ambushed him armed with knives and stabbed him several times all over the body.
“Mhlanga and Dube fled from the scene leaving Sibanda lying on the ground. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Mhlanga and a blood-stained knife was recovered from him. The body was conveyed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where it is awaiting post-mortem,” he said.
Insp Mahoko pleaded with members of the public who might have information regarding the whereabouts of Dube to approach any nearest police station.
“Police once again appeal to members of the public to always prioritise settling disputes through dialogue. To those with information on the whereabouts of Dube may you contact any nearest police station,” he said.
