GIDEON “The Stomp” Teguru continued with his fine form after he won the 2024 Mr Zimbabwe title at 7Arts Theatre at the weekend.
The Fitness First-based hulk was in a class of his own as he beat several other contestants who had taken to the stage for the country’s premier body-building contest.
Teguru was happy to continue with his dominance after he also won the Harare Classic last month.
With a strong line-up that included Edward “Gearbox” Mutero who came second and third-placed Nigel “Spartan” Maphosa the stage gave the judges a lot of work, but it was Teguru’s stage presentation and performances that saw him banging more scores.
Teguru was excited to be crowned Mr. Zimbabwe and is looking forward to contesting on the international scene next year.
“I am very happy and I am grateful to my trainer Lawson Muhambi who has been cheering me throughout the year. There was a lot of competition, but I was confident enough to do well.
“The stage was very tight but after I won the Harare Classic last month, I had all the confidence of defeating my opponents. It was the same line-up that I have always come up against, so the challenge was good.
“I had been preparing the major events like the Harare Classic and the Zimbabwe Nationals for the better part of the year, and I am glad that I managed to win them both.
“I only took a short break after my Asian adventure and quickly returned to the gym for the two special events to which I gave all my attention,” said Teguru.
South Africa-based Mutero, who is under Fitness Factory, was for the second time the runner-up in a tightly contest-ed show. Another South Africa-based contestant Maphosa of Moove Melrose Gym was third.
With South Africa-based athletes returning home for the contest, Patrick Maweto who is affiliated with South Africa’s RM Fitness Gym was fourth and Irvine Dekeya of Pro-Fitness Gym Harare was fifth.
