George Maponga in BIKITA
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda has challenged the media to tell positive stories about developments being made by the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa.
Dr Soda made the remarks during a media tour of Bikita Minerals Sinomine this afternoon.
The minister was accompanied by Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana and other officials from the ministry.
Dr Soda urged journalists to inform the nation about the unfolding socio-economic transformation taking place across the country.
He said Zimbabwe is on course to achieving upper-middle-income status by 2030, citing developments in key sectors such as mining.
The Information Minister commended Bikita Minerals Sinomine for taking heed of President Mnangagwa’s call for mining entities to embrace beneficiation.
He said in addition to producing lithium concentrate, the company is now also producing caesium, petalite and tantalite following investment in a hybrid processing plant.
Sinomine acquired Bikita Minerals in 2022 and to date there has been an investment of more than US$300 million to enhance beneficiation.
The lithium operation directly employs more than 1 400 workers, a figure that rises to over 2 000 when contractors’ employees are factored in.
