TELONE have appointed seasoned coach, Saul Chaminuka as their new head coach replacing Herbert Maruwa, who left the club last week.

His appointment is effective the 1st of May and has the arduous task of saving the club from relegation.

The Wifi Boys are 16th on the log standings with 16 points from 10 matches.  They recorded their first win of the season this past weekend, beating Triangle 2-1 at Gibbo Stadium.

“The board and management finally settled for Saul Chaminuka as the head coach effective 1st of May 2026,” TelOne president Oscah Nduwure confirmed to the Zimpapers Sports Hub.

Chaminuka’s first game in charge will be the Midlands derby against red-hot Hardrock at Ascot stadium on Saturday.

A journeyman in local football, Chaminuka brings a wealth of experience to the Gweru side.

He has previously coached army sides, Buffaloes and Black Rhinos, ZPC Kariba, Green Fuel, Kwekwe United and Dynamos.

Last season, he started the season in charge of Kwekwe United before leaving the club in May after a fallout with the club’s leadership.

A few days later, he joined Dynamos where he replaced Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe, however, he only lasted two months at the Harare side.

In July last year, Chaminuka was suspended by the Dynamos executive after he was fingered for causing the abandonment of a league match against FC Platinum when he ordered the players off the field in protest against a penalty decision that was awarded to FC Platinum.

  1. There we go, as expected a “new” coach had to be appointed. The same old below average coaches are being rotated like prostitutes. When is this going to stop? Can’t ZIFA see that this is the main reason why our football is not developing? We must put resources into training new football coaches. This practice of teams rotating below average coaches must be stopped. Otherwise our football at national level is going nowhere very fast.
