Tembo’s SuperSport win

PRETORIA. SuperSport United claimed a 2-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in a Tshwane derby at Loftus Versfeld last night.

Kennedy Mweene returned to the line-up for Sundowns, with Denis Onyango missing out through injury while Gaston Sirino missed out through injury. In the 15th minute, Sundowns had their first shot on target. Themba Zwane played the ball in to the box as Matsatsantsa defender Grant Kekana intercepted and the ball fell kindly to Downs striker Emiliano Tade, who tried to chip the keeper but the effort went straight at Ronwen Williams, who made a comfortable save.

Soon after, Supersport went down the other end and had their first attempt on goal when Aubrey Modiba did well to get in to the box but shot straight at Dennis Onyango. Pitso Mosimane’s side were punished for their wastefulness when the visitors took the lead against the run of play from a corner on the half-hour mark. Modiba whipped the ball in and Kekana peeled off Tiyani Mabunda at the back post and powered a header towards goal that went in off the upright, leaving Onyango with no chance.

Masandawana had a chance in the 43rd minute to level matters but Tade could only hit the side netting from a tight angle as Mosimane’s side went in to the break trailing at 1-0. On the hour mark, Bradley Grobler was played in behind the Sundowns defence down the right-hand side and struck an effort sweetly at goal from a tight angle, which Onyango had to dive down smartly to his right to save. — Supersport.
