Ten Hag fumes at referee over Ronaldo’s disallowed goal

ERIK TEN HAG was left fuming with referee Craig Pawson following Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a goal ruled out after nicking the ball from Nick Pope after believing a free-kick had already been taken, only for it to be ruled out.

But Ten Hag backed his striker’s intuition and was critical of the decision to rule out the goal given his belief that Fabian Schar had kicked the ball to Pope to start the game back up.

On the disallowed goal controversy, the Dutchman said: “I don’t have a comment, everyone has seen it.

“I shared that with them (the officials). Everyone has seen what happened today on the pitch.”

However, rival manager Eddie Howe believed the referee to have made the right call.

He said: “I could see it at the time and, for me, it was clear. Fabi (Schar) wasn’t taking the free kick. He was allowing Nick to do it.

“I don’t think the referee had blown the whistle to re-start play. Nick was waiting to deliver the free kick and Cristiano Ronaldo has taken the ball off him.

“It would have been a very very difficult goal to swallow if that had stood. For me, it’s clear the ball wasn’t in play.”-The Sun.
