A 37-year-old Harare man appeared in court yesterday for allegedly raping his landlord’s 12-year-old granddaughter.
Crynoce Mwanamutsvene appeared before Harare magistrate, Donald Ndirowei, who remanded him in custody to January 24.
Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje said the girl was sleeping with her two aunts in the dining room when Mwanamutsvene arrived at the house.
He went to his room and, after a few minutes, he went to bath.
Chirenje said Mwanamutsvene then went to the dining room and raped the girl.
However, one of her aunts woke up and saw Mwanamutsvene raping her. She woke up her granny who was sleeping in the bedroom.
The State said Mwanamutsvene then lay on the floor pretending to be drunk.
When they shook him, he did not respond, and they the girl’s grandfather helped him to his room. They took the girl to the police station to file a report and Mwanamutsvene was arrested.
