FORMER Premier Soccer League side, Masvingo United have officially been eliminated from the Zifa Eastern Region Division One championship race with three matches to go.
While Masvingo United clobbered Melfort 3-0 away, they are on 49 points with the highest they can accumulate being 58 if they win their remaining three matches. Log leaders Tenax have 59 points, a point ahead of second placed Buffaloes.
The promotion race is still on in the Zifa Eastern Region Division One with Tenax as well as Buffaloes seem determined to take it right till the end.
With each team left with three matches, Tenax and Buffaloes are involved in a tight race for promotion, the two teams separated by just a point. Tenax top the log with 59 points, closely followed by Buffaloes on 58. FC Makaha are third with 52 which means they are still in the race while Masvingo United occupy fourth spot.
Last weekend, Tenax were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Mutare City, which allowed Buffaloes to close down the gap as they beat Grayham 2-0 at home. FC Makaha were beaten 1-0 at home by Green Fuel while Masvingo United clobbered Melfort 3-0 away.
In league matches lined up for this afternoon, Mutoko-based FC Makaha are at home against Tenax, Buffaloes are away to Ruwa Town while Masvingo United face Chipinge Stars at home.
Zifa Eastern Region chairman, Davison Muchena said a decision was taken for the top four to play their matches at the same time so as to promote fairness.
At the end of the season, the top four in the league will clash in a cup competition that is sponsored by the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company to be played in Mutare.
