PRISONS and Correctional Services netball outfit, Tenax duo of Tafadzwa Mavango and Edzai Nkosana has been included in the national team ahead of the African Champion of Champions tournament set for June 27 to July 3 in Namibia. The two players were drafted into the squad by national team coach, Ropafadzo Mutsauki. Mavango joined Tenax in 2013 coming from Mutare Poly Queens and she has been part of the national Under-20 team where she was a regular player.
Nkosana, on the other hand, has helped her team to win some crucial games in the domestic league.
In an interview recently, Nkosana said she was happy to be called for national duty and promised to do her best.
“I am very happy to represent my nation. It was not easy to be in the final squad as we were so many good players from all over the country.
“I promise to do my best when I am given the opportunity to play in Namibia,” said the 31-year-old star.
Mavango, who was over the moon, described the opportunity as one big chance she has been waiting for.
“I am very happy. I have been part of the national Under-20 team and now I am in the senior national team. It is something that I have been longing for,” she said.
Tenax Queens gaffer, Naftali Nyanguru, whose club has been playing in the Super League for more than a decade also confirmed the latest development this week.
He expressed confidence that the duo will do a great job for the national team.
“It will be an advantage for us as a club since the girls will gain more experience at the national team. Both of them are hard workers and I wish them all the best,” he said.
National netball team will leave for Namibia on June 25 and about 14 countries will take part in this year’s competition.
Team manager, Petronella Gonye, said that enthusiasm was very high in the Zimbabwe camp as a number of their players are ready to a flying start.
“Everyone in our camp is in high spirits. We hope to do better than what we did last time where we came out on fourth,” said Gonye.
