PARKING management company, Tendy Three Investments (TTI) is working on having their system adopted in other towns in the country with the company having already made proof of concept presentations to various local authorities.
TTI is in partnership with the City of Bulawayo where their system has been in use for a year, after having been introduced in February 2022. In an interview with Sunday News yesterday, TTI managing director Mr Lizwe Mabuza said they have managed to make a number of presentations to various municipalities in the country with the aim of having their system adopted in those areas.
“Just like every other company, we are hoping to grow and hence are marketing our system to other municipalities, since we already have a proof of concept. In Gwanda, for example, the request came through a tender and we submitted our papers like other companies. We have also presented our expression of interest to places like Mutare and Plumtree, we are also looking forward to presenting in places like Victoria Falls. The idea is that we push local empowerment like what we have done in Bulawayo,” said Mr Mabuza.
Meanwhile, the Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) have written to the City of Bulawayo’s finance director, Mr Tennyson Mpunzi requesting that the local authority releases a breakdown of funds received from the parking project last year.
According to the contract between the City of Bulawayo and TTI, the proceeds during the contract period will be shared at a ratio of 70 percent to the counter-party (TTI) and 30 percent to the local authority. The project is under a Build Operate and Transfer agreement, which will run for an initial six years with an option to increase by a further four years.
In the letter, BPRA said in initial discussions with the local authority, it had been stated that funds raised from the project will be ring fenced and used to rehabilitate the city’s roads.
“Furthermore, based on the discussions held in 2023 with the City of Bulawayo and Tendy Three Investments, the former Acting Finance Director of the City of Bulawayo stated that funds from the city parking project would be ‘ring fenced and used exclusively to enhance the city’s road infrastructure. Therefore, BPRA is asking the local authority for a comprehensive breakdown of the funds received from the City Parking project in 2023. Additionally, BPRA is requesting a detailed breakdown of how the funds were utilised and which roads were refurbished utilising those funds, as residents’ concerns about the condition of our roads continue to grow,” reads part of the letter.
