Tennis Zim preparations begin

Algiers and the top team will progress to the main event to be held in the Czech Republic in August. The team is made up of Tadiwa Chinamo, Julius Mutetwa and Keith Wakatama. They have been preparing at Alex Sports Club is training under the guidance of Martin Dzuwa while the competiin will be staged on clay courts.

Chinamo made it to the qualifiers after putting up a good show at the African Junior Championships held in Egypt early last month.
The 14-year-old finished second in the warm-up double matches with his partner Keith Mwashita and came ninth in the singles out of 32 players. Mutetwa and Wakatama qualified through the play-offs held last month.

Tennis Zimbabwe administrator, Cliff Nhokwara, said the players were adjusting well to playing on clay courts.
“We gave them a programme and they are playing at clay courts at Alex Sports Club. Hopefully they will adjust in time before they go to Algeria. They are adjusting

well but the first few days it was tough but now it’s getting easy to time the bounce of the ball and skidding. It’s about two weeks now since they started training and they will be training up until they leave. We are also trying to get them there two days before the tournament commences,” said Nhokwara.
Mutare — based coach, Freeman Nyamunokora, will accompany the team.
