URBAN Grooves musician Tererai Mugwadi is facing a backlash after a video, of her strange performance at the Shoko Festival in September, emerged.
Some of the fans have described her stage performance that day as “lifeless” while others have called it “boring.”
The fans said the urban grooves diva, who was once the queen of her genre, has now “lost her mojo” and her star was fading.
Some of her fans even claimed that she behaved as someone who was “drunk.”
Tererai performed at the Shoko Festival’s ‘Mash Up Night’ in September. Other fans, though, said this was deliberate and there was a hidden message from Tererai.
“This was a deliberate act by Tererai,” said a fan.
“Only creatives will understand the massage she is sending to the nation at large in the Campaign against Drugs Abuse in the music industry as well as youths.”
She was a guest artist during a special event celebrating the music of legendary producer Take Fizzo.
It was part of the festival’s 15th-anniversary edition, themed “The Legacy XV”.
During the ‘Mash Up Night’, Take Fizzo was joined on stage by several urban grooves pioneers, including Tererai, Mafriq, Trinity, MC Chita, Mau Mau and Nembo Bwoy.
This set was meant to cast a spotlight on Zimbabwean music legends and their contributions to the urban culture scene.
The 15th anniversary festival featured acts like comedian King Kandoro, who headlined the Shoko Comedy Night, and a ‘‘Mash Up Night’’ with Reason (Sizwe Alakine) and OneDa.
