THE weather was terrible on Saturday and it would have been enough to deter fans from attending the Freeman HKD Music Festival at Alex Sports Club.
But, not even the rain could stop thousands of fans from attending the first edition of Freeman HKD Festival at Alexandra Sports Club.
Freeman also launched his album titled ‘Me vs Me’, which has 16 tracks.
It is his biggest project to date.
As late as 9pm, there was a small crowd and there were even fears that this could be a huge flop.
However, when the rain stopped, at about 10pm, there was a wave of fans who came to the show and, in the end, the open air venue was packed.
Early yesterday morning Freeman emerged on the stage, dressed in a shiny black suit with a red bow tie, and the crowd went crazy.
The festival had an impressive line-up of talented musicians who included Master H, Seh Calaz, Nutty O, Voltz JT, Bazooker, Tamy Moyo, Feli Nandi, Nisha T, Trevor Dongo, Chillspot and Holy Ten.
The festival ended at about 5am yesterday.
There was a touching moment when Freeman brought onto the stage a fan who was manhandled by security at his show in Kariba last weekend.
Freeman apologised to the fan last week and his camp identified him and bought him a ticket to come to Harare for the show.
The fan accepted the apology and came to the festival.
“This is very good,” a man told H-Metro.
“This shows a level of responsibility we expect from these celebrities.
“Mistakes do happen and what happened at that show was something which was very bad.
“It’s good to see that they also care for us because without us these stars are nothing.”
As usual, the cellphone thieves were a menace at the show.
It appears there are now some syndicates who operate at such shows and many revellers were given a rough time by these thieves.
