Masvingo’s three State-owned institutions of higher learning have heeded Government’s directive to slash tuition fees for students on work-related learning or teaching practice by 40 percent. The move by Great Zimbabwe University, Masvingo Teachers’ College and Masvingo Polytechnic to reduce tuition fees has earned the three institutions plaudits by thousands of students on industrial attachment.

Great Zimbabwe University director for information and public relations Mr Anderson Chipatiso said his institution has already implemented Government’s directive to cut tuition fees for students on industrial attachment.

Mr Chipatiso said they were bound by Government policies by virtue of being a State-owned institution.

“We are a Government-owned institution and we adhere to Government’s decisions and I am glad to announce that we have already complied with the decision to slash tuition fees for our students on work-related learning by 40 percent,” he said.

Masvingo Polytechnic principal Mr Evans Musara said they have already complied with the Government’s directive.

“We had to comply with Government’s decision to slash tuition fees, there is no other option there,” said Mr Musara.

His counterpart at Masvingo Teachers’ College Mr Benson Mutambudzi also said his institution was mandated to follow Government policy hence the swift compliance by slashing tuition fees for students on industrial attachment by the prescribed 40                    percent.

Government, through the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, recently directed all State-owned institutions of higher learning to reduce tuition fees for students on industrial attachment to cushion them from the prevailing tough economic environment.
