She said most of the new centres were overcrowded. Clr Kariwo said the overcrowding could spell disaster in the event that some of the teachers had TB or other communicable diseases. She said during tours in her ward, she observed that most of the crèches and private schools enrolled more children than was normal.
“I propose that the teachers be tested for TB, HIV and Aids and other communicable diseases. I also propose that our inspectorate should move around to ensure that only trained personnel attend to our children in the crèches,” she said.
Clr Kariwo said some of the crèches had been turned into business ventures  selling goodies such as soft drinks and eats meant for the children.
