Thabitha Banda from Bulawayo was crowned winner of the fifth edition of the Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show, which attracted more than 100 models at an event held in South Africa.
The first runner-up emerged from Kezi District, as contestants from across Matabeleland and beyond lit up the runway in a dazzling showcase of fashion, glamour and creativity in what organisers described as the biggest edition of the event to date.
Models travelled from Tsholotsho, Filabusi, Gwanda, Bulawayo, Lupane, Bubi, Kezi, Nkayi, Midlands and Wankie District, reflecting the event’s growing regional appeal and rising profile on the fashion calendar.
The entertainment line-up featured South African music duo Shwi Nomtekhala, Professor, Fab G (Imali YeSigweja), Team Monalisa, Sbue from television drama uZalo, and guest artiste Allen Ndoda. Motivational speaker and entrepreneur Dr Khehlelezi attended as guest of honour.
Founder Mapressa said this year’s edition marked a significant milestone, with attendance doubling compared to last year’s show. He praised the audience for their discipline and orderliness throughout the event.
“The numbers doubled this year, and despite the huge turnout, everyone was orderly and respectful. There was no commotion from start to finish,” he said.
Among the standout moments of the night were the contestants’ grand runway entrances, MC Samantha’s dramatic arrival on a motorcycle, Mangako Academy CEO’s stylish entrance in a sparkling BMW soft-top convertible, and artiste Ezebhubesi’s theatrical appearance wearing bull horns.
Mapressa said the event continues to grow as more people embrace its vision and dress code.
“People now understand the assignment. About 98 percent of the attendees came dressed according to the glamour theme, and the numbers have doubled,” he said.
This year’s edition also introduced four new categories: Most Glamorous Couple, Most Glowing Woman, Most Glamorous 40 Years Plus, and Indoda Elomkhaba Omuhle (Best-Dressed Man with a Distinguished Physique).
Following the success of the fifth edition, organisers have already begun preparations for the future, with plans to stage a Mapressa Glam Summer Edition in Bulawayo later this year.
Mapressa said additional categories could be introduced next year as the event continues to evolve into one of the region’s leading fashion and lifestyle showcases.
