PREPARATIONS for the premiere of The Bicycle Thief film are at an advanced stage with the Bulawayo launch slated for August 8 at the Bulawayo Theatre.
Kudakwashe Takundwa, the film’s marketing manager, said they would launch the film next month across the country and also hopefully launch it out of the country. He said they had tried to bring new innovation through a short story that is pregnant with social facts.
“The Bicycle Thief features local and international actors who are casting for first time alongside veteran actors making up the full cast. Actors such as Prince Zulu famously know as Snake from local sopie Amakorokoza, Josphat Ndlovu, Simon Banda and Julian Tshuma feature in the movie together with international actors including Nicole R Hughes, Joe Provosta, Jonviere Marchand, Myers Clark and Edgar Santos. The film, which was directed by United States-based filmmaker Sanelle Sibanda, is about young Zola, an African who defies the usual route of academic achievement to reach his dreams.
“In this world, freedom comes in many ways and in this story, Zola – a young talented dancer in a remote village in Africa is devastated when his father leaves to work in South African mines.
“The situation gets worse when his mother dies of Aids. Zola is left to live with his uncle who is a poor man. He then decides to audition for a dance competition and his life changes,” he said. – Harare Bureau/Showbiz Reporter
