ZIMPAPERS Bulawayo branch last Friday donated to Tsholotsho flood victims following an appeal to staff members and members of the public to assist the displaced villagers.
Mr Marks Shayamano, the branch’s General Manager, Managing Editor Isaac Waniwa and Workers’ Committee vice chairperson Sikhumbuzo Moyo presented clothes, blankets, sanitary pads and shoes to the villagers who lost almost all their belongings in the floods.
Zimpapers Bulawayo branch staff members and a number of well-wishers provided the donated goods.
The victims, numbering 857, were evacuated to Sipepa Clinic last month and have been staying there due to the threat posed by floods.
Zimpapers Bulawayo branch coordinated an exercise for staff and members of the public to donate.
Churches, local business executives and individuals responded to The Chronicle’s call for donations.
The African Methodist Episcopal Church and the Gumtree Methodist Church Episcopal in Bulawayo were among the churches that donated.
A Bulawayo businessman Mr Petros Sibanda mobilised shoes and clothing for the floods victims.
Other individuals who donated preferred to remain anonymous.
“We are really grateful for this kind gesture by Zimpapers Bulawayo. The donation will go a long way because most of these people lost all their clothing and winter is on the horizon,” said Musa Ndlovu on behalf of the villagers.
