‘The devil is a liar’

Among such musicians is upcoming but promising gospel artiste Masauso Kaware.

Masauso is a soul singer from Karoi whose debut six-track album, “The Devil is a Liar”, reveals aspects of his life which include years of struggle with sin when he was still an offender.

His album was recorded at T&C Records and is set for launch this Sunday at Inner City Methodist Church in Harare’s  Central Business District.
He mainly talks about sinner’s victory over sin and the need for righteousness among humans.

In an interview, Kaware (36) said he spent 10 years of his life in prison for armed robbery before recording his album.
“I was in prison for 10 years. I used to commit crimes of armed robbery and was based in Chinhoyi where I was arrested,” he said.

He added that while in prison he developed a taste for songwriting and the songs on his new album reflecthis life when he was still a criminal and his transformation after converting to cCristianity in 2010 when he was released from jail.

“I wrote all the songs on my album. When I was in prison I wrote many songs although these were not gospel.
“The songs on my album speak about the nature of my life before I received Christ. If I look back, people avoided me because of my violent behaviour and my propensity for committing crime.

“Today, I am a new man and this shows the grace of God upon my life,” he said. He also added that his music aimed at encouraging people to guard their souls and avoid being used by evil spirits.

“I am teaching that there is no joy in living a life of crime or general wrongdoing. Joy is found only when one lives a life that pleases God. I am also hoping to encourage people pray since God is good,” said Masauso.

Commenting on why he chose the title “The Devil is a Liar” for his album, Masauso had this to say:
“The Devil is a Liar refers to the fact that Satan had targeted my life and sought to keep me from learning about God and His word. What I am today shows that Satan is a speaker of lies.”

Misery

Looking at the content of Masauso’s songs, there are several issues explored in his album, some of which include the idea that life in sin is wasteful, regrettable and brings with it only sorrow, misery and poverty.

Other themes include freedom from the influence of sin, salvation in Christ, and vanity of earthly pleasures.
The idea that humans are driven into sin by the devil and that people suffer as a result of consequences of their actions, are also issues explored in tracks such as “Ndaikaita Zvose”, “Zvichabuda Pachena” and “Ndinokurangaririra”.

Now that his album is almost ready for the market, there is hope that this up-coming artiste will make a name for himself in gospel music judging by his passion for music.
“Right now my aim is to record videos to thebsongs on my album but the challenge I am facing is shortage of money.

“I am thankful all the same to several people and organisations for helping to make recording my album a reality.
“Among these are Mr and Mrs Mugwira, ZAOGAPrison Ministries, Rebirth Correctional Services Trust headed by Pastor Masimba and T&C Records,” he said.
