adminZembe’s wife, Winnie, said the musician was in a stable condition after he underwent surgery on his left leg.
“The operation cost US$3 500 and as a family we managed to raise US$1 500,” she said. “He is still hospitalised at Chitungwiza and we appeal to well-wishers to chip in with the balance.”
Winnie said it was difficult for her to raise the money since she was unemployed.
Though he has been on the downward spiral in recent years, Zembe is known for his songs which once topped the charts on both radio and television.
His career dates back to 1985 when he teamed up with Emmanuel Thomas, Jivas Dzotizei, Philbert Marowa, Wellington Masvosva and the late Bob Manwere to form the Scanners.
The band released the single “Chauya Chauya” which was well received.
Music critic Fred Zindi adopted the Scanners and renamed it Black Fusion and later changed the name to Frontline Crew. Zembe later left the group to pursue a solo career in gospel music.
