THE departure of Thando Ngwenya from FC Platinum and the death of Brian Banda signals the end of an era for the four-time champions.
The club completed a four-peat during the Castle Lager Premiership 2022 campaign and that milestone was spearheaded by Walter Musona, Panashe Mutimbanyoka, Banda and Ngwenya.
This quartet elevated the profile of the Zvishavane miners, extending their dominance as the local football’s emerging big brothers.
Musona won the Soccer Star of the Year award during that campaign.
But, he packed his bags two seasons later to Simba Bhora, where he won his second championship and Soccer Star of the Year Award.
Mutimbanyoka moved to Scotland earlier this season.
Ngwenya confirmed his departure last Saturday and is expected to be unveiled by Amazulu soon.
Banda died in a tragic car accident just hours after the confirmation of Ngwenya’s departure.
The forward feels the 2022 season was his best.
“That was my best season without a doubt and I was surprised not to see my name on the calendar,” said Ngwenya.
“I was going to count this season as my best but it has to end at this point. I just hope and pray to carry this form with me to South Africa.
“The passing on of Banda is something which remains unbelievable to everyone at the club. And it’s a great loss to the club and Zimbabwean football.”
