The Gods You’ve Built set for Ibumba festival

Masvingo-based playwright Tawanda Kanengoni’s play, The Gods You’ve Built will be staged at the Bulawayo annual Ibumba Festival set for December.The play was premiered last month at the Charles Austin Theatre in Masvingo and will also be staged at  the Isigcawu Theatre Festival in Durban.

The play explores various aspects of human life including emotions that often lead to self-destructive decisions. In an interview, play director Leeroy Gono said they were preparing not only for the Bulawayo festival but many others that have invited them.

He said after the Durban festival, the play will also be staged in Johannesburg and Pretoria before moving to Harare’s Reps Theatre.
Gono said they were also scheduled to tour India in early December and will wind up the  year with a performance at the Ibumba Festival in Bulawayo.

“We are pleased that our efforts are being recognised nationally and internationally,” he said.
The play’s cast includes Khetani Michael Banda, who plays the role of Pamhidzai, a policeman, Precious Mudzingwa who plays a nun called Rudo and Gono himself who plays the role of Brian, a professor.
