Wine lover? Looking for that good wine experience and the earthiness that Zimbabwe inherited? Then mark your calendar because there is something in store for you.

Last year, wine lovers were treated to a rare treat in the inaugural edition of “The Good Wine Experience” in Matopos and that was not the end of it. It is coming back for the second edition and organisers have announced the date.

The second edition of the prestigious Good Wine Experience is set to take place on Saturday, 14 October and what better place to host it than the majestic Matopos where you will get a feel of everything Zimbabwe, from the dishes to the wine and nature.

How about a little African luxury? It will not just be food and drink, but there will also be a fitting musical performance.

“It’s time to use food and wine to celebrate through the concept of slow living and African luxury. Join us for an outdoor blitz of wine and food powered by two major wine houses and a safari tour through the Matopos this October 2023.

“Let’s enjoy an escape where we savour a delicious five-course lunch inside the plush castle paired with some of our most special vintage wines. You will later be treated to a special acoustic performance by a multi-award-winning saxophonist, the enigmatic spirit of African Soul,” read a statement from brand consultants, Lemon Groove who are behind the event.

The Good Wine Experience is set to take its attendants on a journey through Zimbabwe in its most natural form. It will bring out wine lovers, reputable local wine brands, professional sommeliers and local chefs for an ultimate experience of elegance.

It is not ‘just another food and wine event’, but a huge player in boosting the region’s tourism industry.

“We understand the need for a supportive tourism cycle where every stakeholder in our path benefits to contribute to the ultimate package for local and international tourists. This is why before the event, attendees are taken on a two-hour tour of the magnificent region, so they understand the people, their food and the wildlife in the area,” the statement read.

“The purpose is to elevate Zimbabwean cuisine by forcing the industry to look into homegrown  ingredients. This event offers a chance for us to communicate ingredient options to food and wine enthusiasts so as to create different techniques for cooking in Zimbabwe.

“We want tourists to know there is more to our food culture and that traditional food can be sophisticated. The event offers restaurant owners, lodge owners and chefs a chance to try out ingredients from different regions in Zimbabwe,” the statement read.

For those looking for that good experience, it costs US$300 per person. – @brandon_malvin
