The great African exposure visit

AWARD winning humanitarian, Tyrone Havnar, who is the founder of ‘I Reach Out My Hand Africa’, has begun his journey of social change through Africa by volunteering at children’s homes and learning institutions until May 16.

Havnar’s journey starts in Zimbabwe then South Africa where he will visit one children’s home before setting off for Botswana where he will be visiting one children’s home and one educational centre.

During the expedition, he would be sharing the importance of experiential learning and encouraging children to choose a career path which they truly desire.

“I grew up in the countryside where I did not have the general basics that a child must have and constantly missed school because there was no tuition. I was also sadly being tossed around to different homes as there was instability at home.

“My social change journey happened to start when I was very young because these negative experiences shaped me and helped me see how others around me needed help. Even without finances, I still started as I knew even a polite word can shape someone.

“This is something that I yearned to hear, but it never really came. It was like expecting that one letter which would transform one’s life that the postmaster never delivered,” he said.

Havnar’s initiatives promote shared learning and collaboration among the youths and adolescents, while motivating, empowering and unifying them so they can become stewards in their respective communities and strengthen the backbone of Africa’s social and economic transformation.

“My aim is to eventually visit 14 African countries as a celebration of my 14 years as a social change maker. By the end of this trip, I would have visited 14 organisations in Africa.

“I will land in Kariba where two organisations will be visited, one in Chinhoyi, the other in Chegutu, then I will return to the farm ending my exposure visit,” he said.
