Upon joining an institution of higher learning, every student has ambitions to achieve their dreams.
The motive is to help his or her family from the burdens of abject poverty, be a role model and help others who will walk through the same path.
And heartbreaks are not only found in love but they are also found in the academic journey.
Life at college is not predictable as some of these dreams end up in the dustbin.
Failing to pay fees in the middle of your academic journey can strike hard.
Dropping out of college can be a deeply emotional experience, often accompanied by feelings of heartbreak and disappointment.
This decision is not merely about leaving an educational institution; it encompasses a range of personal, social and financial implications that can affect an individual for years to come.
One thing, that many people, don’t know is that, behind the results you see, lies the untold story of suffering and hard work.
Of them all, dropping out of college is a thorn in the flesh.
This week, I am in the corner of those students who face challenges and end up dropping out of university.
Recently, I was having a chat with some students who pulled out of college due to different challenges such as pregnancies, lack of fees, family challenges and distance among other issues.
Their stories are sad to hear but it’s part of life.
Some students fail to pay fees due to backgrounds, lack of support, uncaring parents or guardians, and no parents to talk about while at times, it can be a result of recklessness by the student.
But in the end, may God help those students who are facing hardships as they also dream of finishing their courses.
I also implore some well-wishers to help those students who are facing different burdens.
Many thanks go also to those who offer sponsorship and help many students achieve their dreams.
Having no one to stand by you while at university, is a bitter pill to swallow.
May all the dreams come true for all the students.
Facing challenges at college has significant emotional, academic, and financial repercussions for students. The inability to overcome challenges often leads to negative outcomes that can affect a student’s educational journey and overall well-being.
No one chooses poverty or problems but we dream of a better life, no wonder why at times we have hope in education so that it can break the chains of poverty.
We all have hope that education can emancipate us from our humble beginnings but life at college can hit hard when you drop out of university due to problems.
There are challenges we can accept, such as going to college without eating anything. Some even walk long distances for the sake of meeting their destiny, while others put on clothes which are not good enough.
Many students are spending their days without eating anything, and some have challenges with dress codes.
Yes, the roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.
The heartbreak only comes when one drops out of college when they are at a higher stage.
Many students experience anxiety, depression and feelings of inadequacy when they cannot afford to continue with their academic journey.
This emotional burden can lead to decreased motivation and engagement in their studies.
Students mainly suffer heartbreaks when they drop out of their academic journey.
The burden that comes with facing challenges is that one has to repeat the semester or they would have to sit for the same exam the next semester.
While students have problems, the challenge of pulling out of college strikes hard.
I have noticed that many times students lose hope when they are made to repeat their courses.
At times students accumulate debt for various reasons, including tuition payment plans that become unmanageable, and the consequences of these debts are severe.
As a result, students may face restrictions and alternately opt out of the university. Many times, once one drops out, it will be difficult for them to make a comeback.
At some point, I shared about the dilemma of a poor student.
Gone are the days, when students would get grants to push their academic pursuit.
Such initiatives would lighten the burden of students and such programmes allow students with outstanding balances to re-enrol under certain conditions and have shown promise in helping them return to university.
The pain associated with dropping out over challenges is profound and multifaceted.
It highlights systemic issues within educational institutions that need addressing through policy changes aimed at reducing financial barriers for students.
The issue of students dropping out of college is a significant concern that has been exacerbated by various factors, including financial pressures, early marriages and family break ups among other challenges.
Many students face barriers to continuing their education when they accumulate small debts, which can prevent them from re-enrolling in classes or completing their degrees.
Many students accrue debt not just from tuition but also from various needs including exam fees or rentals. These debts often go unnoticed until they become significant enough to prevent re-enrolment.
The burden of unpaid fees disproportionately affects low-income students. They are more likely to encounter difficulties navigating financial aid systems and may lack access to resources that could help them manage these debts effectively.
Under such pressures, they end up pulling out of college and it hits hard.
Until we meet for a toast!
