The highly-anticipated local movie “The Letter” premièred yesterday evening.
The movie,a collaborative effort between award-winning filmmakers Daves Guzha and Joe Njangu in association with Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN), was released by CMG International Media Group via an exclusive online distribution deal.
It is now available on digital platform Vimeo for $3.
Inspired by true events, “The Letter” is a tale of the infamous Zuva judgment that saw thousands of workers being laid off without pension benefits back in 2015. Njangu said the movie is a story of survival. “It shows how one will do whatever it takes to protect and provide for their family,” he said.
It follows the story of lead character, Simon, (played by Emmanuel Mbirimi) who sees his retirement dreams shattered when he is given ‘the letter’ of dismissal just before he retires.
Explaining the main characters’ misadventures, executive producer Dave Guzha said, “Simon goes on a rampage against his now former employers which sees him commit a string of unlawful deeds, a lot of lines are crossed.”
The main actor, Emmanuel Mbirimi is backed by a cast featuring veteran actors Jefferson Muserera, fan favourite Admire Kuzhangaira of the P.O Box fame and rising stand-up comedian Tinaye Wayne.
Njagu is a film, television director and storyteller. He has been in the film industry for over 10 years and has produced celebrated movies such as “Escape”, “Sores of Emmanuel”, “Lobola”, “Something Nice from London”, “Wedding Night” and “Salon.Com”.
Daves Guzha is a renowned filmmaker and theatre practitioner with various awards under his belt.
